Hi welcome to my shop! I'm currently Head of Humanities, but I've also been head of department at a number of other schools, not to mention head of year. So I have a lot of high quality resources to share. I take real pride in trying to ensure my resources are well presented, clear, easy to use and of course challenging and engaging for the students. They have taken me a lot of time to make, but hopefully they will save you a lot of time. If you have any feedback then please review me!

British Values - OUTSTANDING tutor time activities

(0)
This resource includes an outstanding Powerpoint with six individual tutor time mini-lessons that will help to introduce British Values to your pupils. It also features a well planned booklet that the pupils can complete to demonstrate their understanding of British Values. This resource is highly versatile and is suitable for use with KS2, 3 or 4. The activities are fun, active, engaging and challenging, and will help to develop the pupils knowledge of what British Values are and why they are so important. The PowerPoint is designed to be used with the attached booklet and contains a variety of activities including: key words, posters, poetry, general knowledge questions, links to highly relevant clips and critical thinking questions. This has been hugely successful in my school at improving the pupils knowledge of British Values and improving their understanding of why they are so important. It comes highly recommended and has been shown to have a measurable effect on the pupils knowledge of British Values. This resource can also be used in lessons such as PSHE as an activity or as a starter/plenary.

Gender Pay Gap Assembly

This is an assembly to explain the gender pay gap in society today. -It covers why there is a pay gap -What are the causes of the gap -How equal the UK is compared to other countries -What we can do to fix the pay gap -And it investigates Iceland (the most equal county in the world) The assembly finishes by getting the students to think about the gift of education and what they can do to make the UK a fairer society. The assembly should take between 10 and 15 minutes to complete and is always very popular. This is an outstanding and inspirational assembly.

Try Something New - Revision / Dog Food Assembly - OUTSTANDING ASSEMBLY

(0)
This is an outstanding assembly and has proven to be perhaps my most memorable and most popular assembly. It has been designed to encourage the students to break out of their comfort zone and take a chance on something new. It was originally created for year 11 students to challenge them to try revising for their GCSE exams, but it would work just as well with other year groups and for other topics. This assembly does involve a lot of preparation before hand, but it is worth it when you get the reaction from the students afterwards! It essentially involves the teacher eating dog food to prove a point! (like all good magicians there is a trick involved with this!) This has consistently proven to be a roaring success at every school I have presented it at, and it remains my most memorable assembly. This assembly can be adapted and modifed to make it ‘safer’, but I would highly recommend following the instructions and well… taking a risk on trying something new! If you use this assembly, please leave a comment!

US Gun Problem Assembly - School Shootings - Outstanding Assembly

This assembly addresses the gun epidemic in the USA, by looking at: -The history of guns in the USA -The causes of the gun problem -The NRA -Trump and the Republican party And causes for optimism for the future. It was written in the aftermath of the Parkland School Shooting but is just as applicable to any mass shooting in the USA (update in light of the tragic 2022 school shooting at Robb Elementry school). This is a well presented, well research, topical and very interesting assembly that covers the gun debate in some detail.

Fake News Assembly - 2023

(3)
This assembly looks at the problem of Fake News in today’s society and the role it has played in several major world events since 2016, up to the present day (including Brexit, Trump, Wikileaks, Climate change denial etc.) The assembly covers what fake news is, the history of fake news, where it comes from, how it spreads and why it matters. It also features a quiz where the students will get the chance to see if they can spot the fake news stories out of ten unlikely sounding stories. Finally the assembly links fake news to gossip and rumours and gives tips as to how to spot fake news (both online and in the classroom). This is a fun but comprehensive assembly.

If is an interactive assembly and asks the audience to participate (in a Q & A and a True or False Quiz). It also has an amusing section looking at celebrity fancy dress costumes and Jimmy Kimmel’s ‘We ate all your candy’ video. A fun and interesting assembly. Highly recommended for assembly or form time.

Year 7 Survey - Transition Questionnaire and Evaluation

(2)
This was a survey I created when completing my NPQSL. I made it from an amalgamation of serveal other surveys I had seen used at other schools. It proved to be a useful and a powerful tool. I used it to gather information about how we could improve our transition procedures, but it could easily be adapted to find out what the students think of their school. A fantastic aid to pupils voice in school.
Marriage and Family Loop Revision Quiz

Marriage and Family Loop Revision Quiz

This is a fantastic twist on the flash cards idea that will prove to be a really useful revision tool in class. INSTRUCTIONS: There are 28 cards with key words on one side and their definitions on the other side. The twist, no one has a matching key word and definition. So they need to call out their key word and everyone must look at their definitions to see if they have the definition to that key word. If they do, they flip their card over and read out their key word and so on until you go all around the class and back to the first person who read out. This can get really competitive and forces the students to learn ALL the key words and definitions. You can make up your own rules (personally I time it, and every time there is a mistake I make them swap cards and start again!). This activity can easily be adapted to other schemes of work or even other subjects. I have used it for RE, History and Humanities. A fantastic and useful resource.

This powerpoint (with activities) can be adapted to your own personal use or planner design. It is designed to help tutor and pupils to ensure they are using their homework/study planners correctly and effectively. It also helps to promote consistency and efficiency and help to improve h/w recording across our school. This was a problem at my school until I created this presentation, and now it is much much better!

An excellent lesson that considers fears and worries and what we can do about them. “we have nothing to fear but fear its self” The students will reflect on their fears and what they can do about them.
Pre-Mortem Revision Technique

Pre-Mortem Revision Technique

(0)
This lesson is to help the students to plan their revision by doing a twist on the idea of a post mortem. While a post mortem is after the event, the pre-mortem does the same thing but before the event (or exam). So instead of thinking about why they failed, they will think about why they might fail and try to put into place a plan to prevent that happening! A useful and thought provoking lesson.

This excellent assembly looks at the issue of mental health and tries to strip away some of the taboos surrounding talking about mental health issues. It includes the sad story of Robin Williams and looks at a advert from a Canadian charity focused on Mental Health. A really useful and powerful assembly that can be held at any time of year (but is best in May during MHA Week) Highly recommended.

This is an excellent assembly to get the students to think about the power of gossip and the importance of communicating effectively. It uses several examples to make the point and features intro and exit music (and a clip featuring advice from Socrates) An excellent one off assembly or an assembly to respond to gossip around school.

This is a powerpoint presentation that can be used to stimulate debate and allow the students to explore major world issues and topics. There are 51 different topics here and these cover popular debating topics (animal rights, immigrants, democracy) and more obscure topics (about junk food and curfews!) Really useful starter, plenary, tutor time activity, drama activity or in a debating club.

The assembly gives the history of Christmas and why there are so many strage traditions involved. It explains the pagan roots, the links to Christianity and how it has evolved to include a wide number of strange customs and traditions. The main part of the assembly features a fun quiz that the students can take part in. I get the whole year group to take part in a fun group activity. This is a really really good assembly! If you like this assembly please leave a review.
